FUNCTIONAL V-188 is an additive that confers a tack or stringiness to a lubricant. It may be used to provide adherence in way oils and chain lubricants, stringiness in greases, and aerosol resistance in mist and pneumatic system lubricants. FUNCTIONAL V-189 and FUNCTIONAL V-190 are diluted versions of FUNCTIONAL V-188 for lower viscosity and easier handling.
COMPOSITION:
The active additive in FUNCTIONAL V-188 is a thermally stable, shear stable polyolefin. The diluent oil in FUNCTIONAL V-188 is light colored paraffinic oil that does not require hazard labeling.
HANDLING:
Due to the viscosity of FUNCTIONAL V-188, elevated temperature (about 200°F (95°C) or higher if necessary) can facilitate handling and storage since, unlike many competitive tackifiers, FUNCTIONAL V-188 is thermally stable. Safe handling precautions are the same as those to be taken with the base oil; see the current MSDS.
Although FUNCTIONAL V-188 is more shear stable than some other tackifiers, the tackiness of the resulting lubricant can be lessened by shearing, so mechanical shearing during blending and handling should be minmized.
